A place where I go to share my thoughts about the world I live in. It's not a perfect world but I love it.

Incredible to see, to hear, to be a part of.

Incredible to see, to hear, to be a part of.

Riding;
For a while now; it’s cold and very quiet.
Everything is white here except for some shrubs, some trees and us,
But mostly, everything is white.

We’re hunting.
Trying to stay warm.
This is my first hunt on horseback.
With four inches of new snow its dead quiet.
Not even a whisper of wind.
Incredible to see, to hear, to be a part of.

We stop to listen;.....nothing,......
The silence, like a blanket tight around my shoulders almost has weight.
The “Every Day” of my life seems to disappear into the quiet around me.
I feel Relief,
Joy at belonging in this solitude.

We move on,
Leather rubbing; gear moving.
Stop for lunch, find some kindling.
Our footfalls, loud on the snow; twigs snapping, hatchet cutting.
Finally.
Fire crackling; warmth.
“Cook those smoky dogs, drink some tea.”
Time for storytelling, reminiscing and catching up.

Getting colder.
Hands rubbing together to stay warm; time to go,
Horses are restless, let’s move.
We mount, it starts to snow; it’s quiet;
So quiet I can actually hear the snowflakes falling and landing on the leather.

Maybe after we leave someone else will come and hear the silence.

  1. Excellent.

    I could almost see it and hear it and smell it. Campfire smoke, leather, horse's urine staining the snow and adding a special note to the cold, crisp air.

    Evocative.
